Re: Dr. Sabiha Mansoor
I know Dr. Sabiha Mansoor for at least ten years. I first met her when she was a lecturer at the Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore. She used to be very active in organizing conferences on English in which I was often a speaker.
I also supervised her Ph. D thesis on the role of English in higher education as her internal supervisor, the external one being in the University of Reading (UK). I found her very hard working and conscientious as a researcher. Her book Punjabi, Urdu, English in Pakistan: A Sociolinguistic Study (1993) is always referred to by linguists and scholars of education writing about Pakistan. Recently she has edited a book (along with two other editors) comprising the conference papers of twenty three sociolinguists, English teachers and educationists. This is part of her dynamic contribution to ELT and language planning in Pakistan.
For all these contributions I recommended Sabiha Mansoor for the SAARC Award 2004. Should you require more information about her please let me know.
Yours sincerely
